KITTEN PARKOUR COURSE

A fully custom climbing course conforming to the limitations of the environment.

This project aims to provide a captivating experience for my cat, Filomena. A fluid system of structures that guides them through the room, while also allowing her to interpret the structures however she pleases. I aim to include a few different structure types, however, they will be largely restricted by the area in which they are located, and the systems around the structure, determining the form and function of the structure.

I aim to create one structure that will bridge my armchair to my workspace. She loves my armchair more than anything else in the house, and will politely meow so I can turn around on my desk chair to create a bridge with my lap.

The next structure will allow her to move from my desk to the window seal. This will be the trickiest as the current plan will mean the structure has to be quite far from the curtain rail mounting point, potentially resulting in increased instability.

ChatGPT Design Structure: Phase 1: Designing and Building Your Personal Cat Parkour Course1. Understand Your Cat’s Needs & BehaviorStudy Your Cat: Cats are agile creatures, but they have specific preferences when it comes to movement. Observe your cat’s behavior to understand how it interacts with vertical spaces, heights, and types of surfaces.Plan for Safety: Ensure all parts of the course are safe and stable for your cat to climb, jump, and explore. Consider potential risks like sharp edges, loose parts, or unstable structures.Consider Your Cat’s Age and Size: Tailor the course to suit your cat’s age and physical abilities. For instance, kittens might enjoy more low-to-the-ground options, while older cats might prefer easy-to-navigate platforms.2. Design the Cat Parkour CourseIncorporate Vertical and Horizontal Elements: Cats love climbing and jumping. Incorporate shelves, platforms, perches, ramps, and cat trees. A mix of vertical and horizontal elements will give your cat plenty of variety.Use Natural Cat Behaviors: Consider your cat’s instincts for stalking, leaping, or hiding. Elements like tunnels, hiding spots, or ledges to perch on can mimic natural behaviors.Scale and Size: Create platforms or obstacles that vary in height but are easy for your cat to navigate. Start with simple steps and gradually make them more challenging as your cat gets comfortable.Material Selection: Choose safe, non-toxic materials. Wood, sisal, carpet, and foam are often good options. Also, soft padding or carpeting can help prevent slips and injuries, especially on high jumps.Aesthetic and Integration: Since this will be part of your bedroom, design it to blend with your room’s decor. This can be done by using neutral-colored wood, custom fabrics, or ensuring the design feels like a natural extension of the space.3. Build the Initial Obstacle CourseStart Small: Begin with a few key pieces (e.g., a ramp, a platform, and a shelf) to see how your cat interacts with them.Adjust Based on Behavior: Make tweaks and adjustments based on how your cat uses the course. Cats might surprise you with their preferences and behaviors.Ensure Stability and Safety: Test each piece thoroughly before letting your cat fully engage. Stability is crucial, and avoid any materials that could break under weight or have sharp edges.4. Record & Document the ProcessTake Photos and Videos: Capture your cat interacting with the course. These visuals can help as marketing material when you transition to the business phase.Create a Design Guide: Document your design process and measurements. Take notes on what works, what doesn’t, and any challenges you face. This will help in refining your designs and customizing them for others later on.Phase 2: Transition to Selling Custom Cat Parkour Courses (Business Model)1.
